Slide Lake

Views:Mountain Lake and red rocks, On the Way Back the absolutely most magnificent view of the Teton Range
How To Get There:  From Jackson go North on U.S. Hwy. 89/191 to the Gros Ventre Junction.  Turn right and drive 7 miles to Kelly (this is also part of the road loop where you are likely to see Buffalo).  The road curves to the left and you about 1 mile ahead there will be a paved road on your right that leads to Slide Lake.  Take that road and go approximately 5 miles to the right turn to the lake.  Along the way there are several turn offs with views of the area where massive amounts of rock and debris slid off the mountain to form the lake.  At the lake, there is a boat dock and several small beach areas to relax and wade into the water.  You are likely to have this area almost to yourself, especially during the week.

On the way back, make sure to pay attention to the Teton range that rises majestically before you.  Perhaps because of the angle, at no other point in the valley have I found such an inspiring view.  As you continue on, you will reach a point where the road travels through the aspens.  At the end make sure to stop to take a picture of the Grand perfectly lined up with the road exiting the trees.
